Seidhr
Talking Circles
RELEASED: 12.21.2024
Talking Circles’ Seidhr is a direct result of Patrick Murphy’s newfound appreciation of Dungeon Synth, a genre that is usually composed with virtual instruments to evoke dark atmospheres with medieval undertones. Murphy’s approach to the genre, however, uses a different tact.
“For this EP I wanted to go a very different route than my previous release. I wanted to see if I could make a similar sound to Dungeon Synth using mainly electric guitar to capture the cold, dark time of winter where you just want to stay inside your house. It’s kind of a lonely sound, distorted and heavy with tape warble. The winter time has always had a nostalgic feeling to it, and I wanted to capture that. ‘Seidhr’, is an Old Norse word for a form of magic related to telling and shaping the future.”
Despite its brevity Seidhr is a world in itself that guides the listener through a melancholy fog, past the brutal ruins of a forgotten civilization, and into a new and yet somehow ancient realm lost in time.
