WINTER STAYS
TERRILL MAST
RELEASED: 12.21.2024
Winter Stays is a direct sequel to Terrill Mast’s 2023 release Autumn Falls, adhering to similar feels and short loop-based structures, but with a more industrial edge that lends itself to both bombastic outbursts and brooding quietude.
MAST: “I wanted to release something on the solstice. It just so happened that my bandmate, Patrick Murphy (Talking Circles, Murphy Mast) was in the final stages of his own EP, Seidhr, so we decided to hold each other accountable for a joint release. Winter used to be my absolute favorite season as a kid, and I wanted to revive that same energy of being excited to play in the snow with my friends, getting cozy indoors after risking hypothermia, and being mystified by the way the world looked at night. I started these songs in the winter of 2023 and have sat on them until now, making small changes even at the 11th hour. The week prior to this release, Patrick and Jed Lingat both stayed at my house for several days while I put the finishing touches on the album. Since I don’t get to see them very often it definitely felt like I was back to being just a kid with his friends in the basement on a cold night. It felt like a full circle moment, and that’s usually a good indicator to wrap things up.”
